PAVEEZZI RHINO NC steel deck supports permit for construction of totally non-combustible elevated decks on rooftops or other locations where strict fire regulations are enforced.
With fire safety regulations becoming increasingly tough, particularly in urban areas, polypropylene paver supports are no longer a viable option in many locations. Often, they’re not permitted even with fire-retardant additives.
PAVEEZZI has developed the innovative ‘RHINO NC’ steel pedestal system to address the specific issue of properly fire-rated pedestals. These steel deck supports offer exceptional fire resistance without compromising on cost, making them a practical and reliable alternative to traditional plastic supports.
‘RHINO NC’ pedestals are composed entirely of steel and meet all of the highest fire safety standards including meeting all criteria specified under ASTM E136, “Standard Test Method for Behaviour of Materials in a Vertical Tube Furnace at 750°C”. As fire-rated pedestals, they are the best option for elevated deck projects requiring totally non-combustible materials.

Non-combustibility: Constructed entirely of steel, these fire-rated pedestals will not catch fire, produce smoke or spread flames. They meet all of the highest fire safety standards including ASTM E136, “Standard Test Method for Behavior of Materials in a Vertical Tube Furnace at 750°C”. A fire-resistant polypropylene snap-on cap with paver spacer tabs is the only non-steel part of the pedestal system.
Fully Height Adjustable: ‘RHINO NC’ non-combustible pedestals offer continuous incremental height adjustment from as low as 25mm to a maximum of 490mm. A locking ring on the screwed column prevents any movement and ensures excellent stability.
Corrosion Resistance: An electrophoretic coating ensures long term durability of the steel pedestals, even in challenging environmental conditions.
High Load Bearing: Each steel pedestal can support loads exceeding 9500kg (9.5kN), making them suitable for heavy-duty applications.

FAQ's
How do “RHINO NC” steel pedestals compare to traditional plastic pedestals in terms of fire safety?
- Traditional plastic pedestals, even those with fire-retardant additives claiming to be non-flammable supports, are inherently combustible and may not be in full compliance with fire regulations for elevated decks. In contrast, ‘RHINO NC’ fire-rated pedestals are made entirely of steel, rendering them non-combustible and in full compliance with fire regulations and rigorous local fire codes. This non-combustible nature makes them ideal for applications where fire safety is a paramount concern, such as rooftop decks in urban areas with stringent building codes.
What considerations should be taken into account when installing “RHINO NC” steel pedestals?
- When installing ‘RHINO NC’ steel deck supports, it’s important to note that, unlike plastic pedestals, the steel base cannot be trimmed to fit closer to perimeter walls or parapets. Therefore, precise planning is essential to ensure proper placement. As with any adjustable height pedestals, setting them as level as possible before finalising the installation will help achieve a level and stable decking surface. Although the 100mm x 100mm totally flat steel base distributes the load evenly over roofing membranes, an optional 230mm x 230mm buffer pad can be supplied for placement under the base of the steel deck supports if required.

The installation procedure with ‘RHINO NC’ rooftop steel pedestals is similar to our original/traditional plastic pedestal (C-Type), with the notable exception that the base of the steel pedestals cannot be cut to bring the pedestals closer to any perimeter wall or parapet.
wind uplift system
The tapped head of ‘RHINO NC’ steel pedestals enables them to provide a secure wind uplift system for both 2cm and 3cm porcelain pavers using a concealed lock down washer. This critical feature overcomes the issue with plastic pedestals where lock down screws can pull though the plastic head, leading to premature failure of the system, either in the short or longer term.

The adjustable SL support with tilting head is the ideal solution for the installation of flooring joists with slats of wood or other material.
The characteristics of the support’s head with a lateral tabs allows to easily fix and rapidly install all kind of substructures.
The leveling performance of the tilting head, which cancels the screed slopes up to 5% allows to obtain a perfectly leveled floor, without resorting to additional features or accessories.

Aluminium joist and joist holder
The aluminium joist works with a specially designed joist holder and is a “double joist” consisting of two profiles spaced by a 6.5mm gap which serves as drainage for the rapid outflow of rainwater.
It has been designed for the installation of porcelain stoneware slabs, multi-format slabs, all wood decking planks and composite decking planks.
The upper part is equipped with two special lanes. As well as the anti-noise function, it also keeps the slabs or the wooden planks distanced from the aluminium joist for a perfect ventilation of the structure.
It is compatible with all heads for aluminium joists and accessories of the pedestal and PAVEEZZI Composites deck.

The self-levelling head for timber joist allows to use any type of joist in wood, WPC, metal or other material with a minimum height of 23mm. It is thus possible to create raised outdoor flooring with wood, WPC or other material finish.

RHINO Extender for Great Heights
In the case of heights greater than 405mm all RHINO adjustable pedestals may use the RHINO Extender - an accessory that fits easily between the “integrated extension” and the screw.
Use up to five extenders to reach a maximum height of 1055mm. This element is also equipped with a safety lock, both in the lower and in the upper part, in total safety always with the Pedestal guarantee by RHINO by PAVEEZZI.
